Welcome to the St. Louis Track Club….We’re glad you’re here!

In The News…

Dorris McManis passed away last Tuesday, 6-months after being diagnosed with liver cancer.  Dorris was honored at the SLTC Banquet in 2000 as the first "Volunteer of the Year".  She was instrumental in the success of the St. Louis Marathon during the 90's and was the race director for the Race for the Cure in its first two years when the SLTC administered the race.  Dorris' wish was to have a memorial in Forest Park, her favorite running venue.  An area in Forest Park will be designated for the memorial, hopefully a GROVE of trees.  If you wish to donate to the Dorris McManis Memorial Tree Fund you make checks payable to "Forest Park Forever" and send to Track Club.  Thanks” - Tom Eckelman, Board Member

The SLTC is still collecting used running shoes for the “Farmers Helping Farmers” charity project in Afghanistan.  A special Missouri National Guard Agricultural Development Team is distributing shoes to local citizens to promote good will.   Running shoes “with over 300 miles or six months on them, still in good condition,” sandals, flip-flops, and tennis shoes can be used.  Shoes can be dropped off at the SLTC office or at SLTC running events.

“The Track Club would like to welcome Anna Jones as the new Newsletter Editor.   Beth Erman is leaving us to pursue a “lighter” schedule.  Special thanks to Beth, who as Track Club newsletter editor has worked tirelessly the last two years to improve our communication with the running and walking community.  We will miss her insight, attention to detail, and great photography.” Dave McNaughton, President

SLTC Member Ed Wolfgram is featured in the October issue of Runners World, in an article titled "Heart of a Champion".

The SLTC Volunteer Picnic was held on Wednesday, August 12:

Email received:

“It was with great sadness that I read in Tuesday's Post (July 28) that Don Myers died in a bicycle accident while participating in RAGBRI, a bike ride across Iowa.  Don was nice guy, an active participant and good competitor in early Track Club races before moving to Rolla to teach.  I, as well as many others, enjoyed running with him and visiting afterward.  He will be missed.”  Bill Stewart

Courtesy of Tom Eckelman, “Link to a plan of the next phase of the forest park dual path system in the southeast portion of the park.  The current heels path ends at the bridge west of Steinberg rink.  From that point the current hard path (in red) will become the heels path all the way to Hampton.  A new wheels path (blue) will go on the east side of Jefferson Lake, west on the south side of Clayton, parallel to the heels path to the mounted police station.  The wheels path will continue parallel to interstate 64 and then rejoin the heels path through the tunnel under Hampton.”
